Rahul Sateeja is a Partner in the firm’s Taxation Group. With around 16 years’ experience, he specialises in strategic advisory, investigations and disputes across all levels of tax adjudication. His practice encompasses direct and indirect taxation, with a focus on complex tax disputes, strategic advisory services, and litigation management.
Rahul regularly appears before the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, CESTAT, High Courts and the Supreme Court. He advises on GST, customs and international trade laws, as well as pre‑GST levies, state excise laws affecting the alcoholic beverages sector, and building/labour cess. Clients value his ability to blend litigation and advisory skills to manage complex tax risks/issues and ensure compliance.
He has conceptualised and filed several precedent‑setting writ petitions on GST issues for Indian and multinational clients. Notably, he, along with the team, led an industry-wide litigation on the GST implications of secondment arrangements and secured the first favourable judgment from the Delhi High Court, which has since been followed in cases involving other multinationals. He has been involved in many landmark cases which developed the tax jurisprudence in India on both direct and indirect taxes.
In addition to his litigation practice, Rahul advises clients on cross-border taxation, transfer pricing, GST, and other evolving areas of tax law. His solutions-oriented approach has helped clients manage tax risk and structure their transactions and operations efficiently in line with Indian tax regulations.
Rahul makes complex tax topics accessible through regular publications and presentations. His sector experience spans aviation, mining, IT Services, financial services, the metal & mining industry and healthcare. An alumnus of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, he is respected for his strategic approach, client focus and collaborative style.
